The Inspector General of Police General Kale Kayihura has pitched camp in Gulu district following reports of deteriorating security situation in the area amidst public anger.

The Aswa regional police spokesperson Jimmy Patrick Okema says the police chief arrived in the district this morning and is expected to hold meetings with district leaders and security operatives as part of his assessment activities.

The development comes after John Oola, the Gulu municipal council deputy town clerk was killed by suspected assailants this Monday an incident which sparked outrage among residents who blamed police for not doing enough.

Oola joins other prominent individuals attacked by suspected iron bar hit men including Journalists, Stephen Balmoi attached to radio Mega, Gulu F.M’s Jack Okello, Vision Group’s Samuel Okaka and Tupee and another official of the Gulu High court.

Gulu district chairperson Ojara Martin Mapenduzi says district leaders are expected to register their discomfort with the security situation in the district.

The 4th Division army spokesperson Captain Hassan Kato says the army has beefed up security of the district by joining in police night foot patrols.
