The Electoral Commission (EC) is uncertain whether it would implement the 2021 road map as set earlier.

While appearing before the Parliamentary Legal Committee chaired by Jacob Oboth, the commission’s chair Justice Steven Byabakama said they haven’t received any communication from the Ministry of Finance to their plan budgeted to cost Shs862bn in a phased manner for a process meant to start March this year.

Byabakama said that they had budgeted Shs155bn this financial year 2018/19 but Ministry of Finance never released any money to the effect.

Meanwhile, Byabakama has also informed the committee that for them to conduct elections in the newly created districts, a sum of not less than 3bnshs must be provided.

Last year, six newly created districts did not participate in elections with already 7 others waiting to start operating in the coming financial year 2019/2020.

They may all miss elections if funds are not provided.
