Journalists through Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) executive have started collecting signatures from cabinet members to impeach the association’s President Robert Kagolo for leadership incompetence.

Kiyinji explains that he has collected 13 signatures and his only remaining with 3 signatories.

However, Bayola admits to have received the impeachment letter which he showed to Kagolo which he ignored.

Earlier, Police in Kampala arrested and released seven journalists on bond for allegedly staging an unlawful assembly. They were Dan Mukisa, Issa Kigongo, Jonathan Tusingwire, Issa Nakabale, Philip Onyango, Ronald Kabuye and Ronald Bukenya.

Police intercepted them as they led a procession from Sheraton Hotel to Emerald Hotel in Wandegeya to commemorate the International World Press Freedom Day.

The journalists were dragged to Kampala Central Police Station where they were locked up for close to three hours but later the Police Spokesperson Asan Kasingye ordered for their release on grounds that May 3rd is World press freedom day Police must not be embroiled in factions of journalists.

After their release in the company of over 30 Journalists, they blamed UJA President Robert Kagolo whose group gathered at the Railway grounds for the Press day for being behind the harassment of his fellow journalists.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Network for Journalists-Uganda (HRNJ-U) Robert Ssempala expressed concern over police’s actions to arrest journalists on their world freedom day saying the force is there to frustrate the media.
