The Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga elected St. Denis Ssebugwawo Konge Lukuli Parish in Makindye division Kampala district, the 67th Parish in Kampala Archdiocese.

He also installed Fr. Francis Mukasa of the Holy Cross Congregation as the Parish Priest during the Eucharistic ceremony held at Konge Lukuli.

The Parish has been curved from Our lady of Mount Camel Kansanga.

Dr. Lwanga congratulated Christians in the New Parish for the spirit of solidarity that has enabled them to build a UGX 2 billion three storied structure that houses the priests’ house, parish hall and a nursery school as part of the need to support the church and initiative that must be protected.

The parish is said to have at least 2000 Catholics according to the census held last year but the active ones are 1,700 spread in two sub parishes, St. Jude and St. Denis.

Dr. Lwanga said a Parish must have priests who are committed to their service, first and far most preparing the word of God for the people, celebrating sacraments for the people and helping them know their duties as Christians in the Parish.

He said the archdiocese plans to introduce programs to teach Christian morals and values, urban challenges, the church and politics, environmental protection, poverty and domestic violence because such problems affect operations of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese.

The New Parish Priest of Konge Lukuli Fr. Francis Mukasa hailed the parishioners for the team work using the biblical scripture of the Tower of Babel where the builders got disorganized because of trying to tempt God saying they should be mindful of such a challenge.

The ceremony was attended by Priests, Religious, leaders from the protestant and Muslim faiths and politicians like the division mayor Ali Mulyanyama and Makindye East MP Alan Ssewanyana who contributed funds towards further development of the parish but also noted with concern the increased insecurity that has seen several people within Kampala shot dead by yet unknown people as well as kidnaps and murders.
