The Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has called for the withdrawal of KCCA amendment bill that is before parliament basing on the. State Minister for Kampala, Benna Namugwanya’s speech where she revealed that in the amendment, they intend to scrap off powers of the Lord Mayor but will create the office of the speaker which Lukwago has been holding.

Lukwago says the minister’s utterances are contrary to what is in the bill calling for the withdrawal of the bill or first seek public decision.

Some of the demands in the amendment are increase of emoluments of division mayors and councilors and streamlining the functions of the institution among others.

However a few minutes after midday the meeting aborted with councilors accusing Lukwago of fighting to win big as an individual yet they all want power sharing which has forced Lukwago to adjourn the seating to Thursday June 22nd.

In the amendments bill the two clauses that are causing controversy is one about finances which currently is controlled by KCCA yet the divisions are the main collectors of the revenues and independence of the divisions to allow them take decisions of implementation and electing the Lord Mayor by the division councilors.
