The Ministry of Health in conjunction with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has tasked political leaders in Kampala to mobilize people to register for the long lasting mosquito nets which are yet to be distributed.

According to the MOH Assistant Commissioner for Disease Control Dr. Allan Luta, the number of people affected with malaria ever since the issuance of free mosquito nets has reduced from 46% in 2014 to 19% in 2017.

Launching the distribution campaign in Kampala, the State Minister for Health In charge of General Duties Sarah Opendi cautioned the public in Kampala against misusing the nets.

The Minister of Kampala Betty Olive Namisango Kamya urged women to be at the forefront in fighting misuse of the nets since they are the main victims to malaria infection.

The registration exercise is expected to last only for 4 days starting from 13th to 16th targeting the weekends especially with a single treated mosquito net to be accounted for 2 persons in each home stead.

Over 3.2 million treated mosquito nets will be distributed in both Kampala and Wakiso district.
