Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) technocrats have today, Monday, snubbed a council meeting following a scuffle last week in which councilors blocked them from leaving council room.

On Thursday, directors were blocked from leaving council hall when they refused to participate in the meeting over a letter by Kampala Minister Beti Kamya describing Council sitting as null and void.

The council meeting was deferred to today, however, in a letter dated 29th January, the Acting Deputy Executive Director, Samuel Sserunkuma said the conduct of the councilors during the Thursday meeting in which technical staff were held hostage for almost an hour “was dishonorable and disconcerted members of management.”

Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike who had come to chair today’s council meeting read the letter to the councilors.

Nakawa I councilor Moses Okwera proposed an informal meeting between councilors and technocrats to resolve the impasse, a proposal that was accepted by councilors.

A seven-member committee chaired by Deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike was appointed to take on the mandate, although other councilors like Kennedy Okello of Nakawa II argued that engaging technocrats is bending so low in respect to the KCCA Act.
