LORD MAYOR FAULTS BUSINESSMAN BASAJJABALABA

By Francis Lubega

Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has denied accusations that he connived with hooligans to fight the business man Hassan Basajja Balaba from running his city Abattoir located along old port bell road which caused him a loss of 16 million shillings he was supposed to collect per month.

Last year Basajja Balaba who claims to be the lease owner of the Abattoir petitioned the presidential Parliamentary committee accusing Lukwago with some traders of blocking him from accessing the abattoir and even mobilized traders not to pay any operational charges to him.

Appearing before the same committee chaired by Colonel Fred Mwesigye,  Lukwago challenged Basajja Balaba to produce evidence to the accusations and also prove ownership of the Abattoir because according to the available documents to the then the KCC Basajjabalaba acquired a lease for the abattoir in 2001 but he subleased it to one Dan Kwatampora without consulting KCC.

In his recommendation Lukwago wants the abattoir to be returned to KCCA since there is no revenue collected as of now.
