The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) has reportedly abducted 39 people since the beginning of the year, according to the LRA Crisis Tracker, a joint project of a charity organization, Invisible Children and Resolve.

The report indicates that 25 people were abducted and 1 person was killed in the month of January.

“On January 9, a group of 12 men and 6 women looted civilians travelling 5-kilometers west of Pangu in a series of ambushes that lasted a day. They abducted seven men, two boys, and two girls before taking the northern route,” the report states.

The largest group sighted was of 15-men who reportedly spoke Acholi, Pazande, and Lingala.

They looted food and phones from several travellers’ 40-kilometres west of Sanangu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Another group ambushed and looted civilians near Bulumasi in DRC, killed one person and abducted 12 civilians, including two boys and three women On February 9.

The Deputy Director of Uganda Media Centre Colonel Shaban Bantariza,says that the LRA is taking advantage of security weaknesses in the two countries to run activities in the jungle.
