The Minister for Technology, the newly elected Sheema Municipality legislature Dr. Elioda Tumwesigye has been dragged in court on accusations that he dodged court summons requiring him to file a response in an election petition challenging his victory, filed by his rival Plan Virginia Mugenyi of the Opposition FDC.
Mugenyi, through her lawyers of Isabirye and Company Advocates contends that since August 6th, she has been looking for Minister Tumwesigye to serve him with court summons but her efforts were rendered futile.
She thus asked the Kampala High Court to allow her to serve the minster with both the election petition and court summons via media outlets since the time frame with in which she had to serve the respondents elapsed yesterday on the 12 September 2018.
Mugenyi who contested in the Sheema Municipality MP race filed an election petition at the High Court in Mbarara seeking to nullify the election of Dr. Tumwesigye whom she accuses of engaging in multiple electoral offenses including bribery of voters and assaulting her supporters .
Mugenyi who emerged second in the race also faults the Electoral Commission for nominating and declaring Dr. Tumwesigye as winner of the Sheema Municipality MP post before he resigned his seat as Sheema North MP.
