Members of the Budgetary Committee of Parliament have faulted the Ministry of Agriculture over the continued supply of fake seeds to farmers which has led to food insecurity.

In their seating, the legislators demanded an answer on the continued supply of seeds that don’t germinate, demanding for an investigation on the suppliers.

Some of the MPs who have benefited from the Operation Wealth Creation stated that it is the Government that led to the hunger crisis in the country by providing fake seeds and not monitoring them.

The Elgon County MP Wamakuyu Mudini, the vice chairperson of the committee and Bukanga County MP Steven Kangwagye,, said the government seeds he was supplied did not germinate which caused him misunderstandings with the members of the constituency because their seeds too did not grow.

The committee chairperson Amos Lugolobi, stated that on the delivery side the ministry of Agriculture fulfilled its obligation but did not realize the intended objective since the seeds failed to germinate leading to food insecurity and high prices the little food stocks.

However, the State Minister for Agriculture Christopher Kibazanga apologized to the members on their bad experience with the seeds, saying Government will investigate the matter.
