The Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) is set to launch land probing session in Kampala District following Auditor general’s reports on KCCA about the unlawful loss of properties to private investors.

According to the Executive Director KCCA Jennifer Musisi, they are overwhelmed by land cases and properties quarries due to illegal acquisition and leasing out their land to private individuals by government institutions especially the Lands Commission, Kampala District Land Board and Attorney General’s Office.

Some of the properties include Nateete market, KCCA Lugogo land, Kawempe where the Hospital is sitting among other areas. This prompted the Committee chiar Abudl Katuntu to propose the probing to protect government property in Kampala.

Meanwhile, the State Minister for Investment and Privatization Evelyn Anite has revealed that she is ever surrounded by investment brokers who want to bribe her not to expose fake investors in order to access free land.

Anite revealed this during the parliamentary committee on finance while defending the investment code bill 2017 that will cut off the investment middle men, eliminate fake and incompetent investors by providing verification guidelines, control corruption and establish a one stop centre.

The proposed bill that is under review, states that no foreign investor will be allowed to invest or participate in the operation of any investment activity in Uganda before registration with the authority and those who contravene the provision will be fined 20 million shillings or serve a jail sentence not exceeding four years or both.
