The Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs has for the second time rejected the proposed Land amendment brought by the government.

This was after the Minister of Justice and Constitution Affairs General Kahinda Otaffire failed to support the subjects of the bill especially where government will exercise compulsory acquisition of personal land which the committee members are opposed to saying it will be depriving Ugandans the right to ownership of property.

The Committee chaired by Jacob Oboth-Oboth quizzed both Ottafire and Minister for Lands and Urban Development Betty Amongi who failed to justify the need of the amendments thus suspending the committee for a period of two weeks on request of Ottafire saying that they need to fast consult cabinet on the way forward.

However, speaking to Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Ibrahim Ssemujju proposed to executive to withdraw the bill especially that they lack evidence implicating Ugandans for having delayed projects as government claims in the interest of the bill.

Executive quantifies that one of the reasons as to why the bill is need urgently is to solve the delayed government projects by individuals who pursue courts against compensations leading to delays and huge debt pay interests and also constructors.
