President Yoweri Museveni has ordered land related authorities and landlords to stop forcing Bibanja holders from acquiring leasehold titles locally known as Kyapa.

Delivering his speech at the national Heroes Day celebration at Zirobwe in Luwero district, Museveni said that government recognizes only two legal instruments; the Constitution and the 1998 Land act that streamline land related issues.

This follows several complaints about Buganda Kingdom’s campaign of Kyapa Mungalo that requires Bibanja holders to upgrade their freehold to leasehold.

Museveni says people have to register their land at free will adding that government is ready to come up with amendments on the land law after the instituted land inquiry committee headed by Justice Catherine Bamugemereire to protect tenants and bibanja holders.

He however warned officials against increasing ground rent commonly known as Busuulu beyond 30,000shs per annum. Museveni further vows to act against those who forcefully and illegally evict people from their land.

On the fight against Unemployment President Museveni Vows to set put a pineapple juice plant in Luwero district on top of the investment by foreign investors to process agricultural products to add value and income to the farmers.

More than 360 people who included veterans, artistes, politicians and army officers received medals in honor for their distinguished service in the country.
