The newly appointed chairperson of the Uganda Land Commission (ULC) also former Member of Parliament for Hoima district Beatrice Nyakaisiki has pledged to settle the problem of unpaid claimants whose land was taken by government for various projects.

Immediately after being vetted by the parliamentary Appointments committee chaired by Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, Nyakaisiki said many people are landless because of failure to be compensated.

Nyakaisiki replaces Baguma Isoke whose term of office expired as Chairman of Uganda Land Commission and she is to serve with among other members; the former Iganga district chairperson Asuma Kyafu, former Gulu University Vice Chancellor Prof Nyeko Pen-Mogi, Stella Achan and former Kabale Town Clerk Rukiika Bujara.

Nyakaisiki also promised to lobby for the increase on the commission staff salary, ensure all government land is surveyed and titled, and persuading President Yoweri Museveni to maintain the financing of the land fund instead of reducing as it was proposed.
