Members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary caucus have generally agreed to support Igara West Member of Parliament Raphael Magyezi private members bill seeking to scrap off the presidential age limit within the constitution.

Addressing the media in Kampala, the Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa informed that, only seven out of the 296 members voted against the proposed bill while two abstained.

The Igara East Member of Parliament, Raphael Magyezi is expected to seek leave of parliament on Thursday to prepare and table the motion seeking to scrap article 102 (b) of the constitution, which restricts the presidential age to between 35 and 75 years of age.

During the caucus meeting, the Serere County MP, Patrick Okabe, proposed that government institutes a constitution review commission however only four members voted in favor of the proposal.

Earlier, a group of NRM youths in Kampala condemned opposition legislators against insult party Members of Parliament who are supporting the move to scrap age limit in Uganda constitution.

The group led by Herbert Anderson Bulora, Akhenda Emanuel and Muhangi Zepher says the legislators should use peace full and legal means to oppose the amendments instead of fighting.

Yesterday, the Member of Parliament for Ayivu County in Arua district Ibrahim Abiriga was slapped by Arua Municipality Member of Parliament Atiku Bernard on allegations of supporting the lifting of age limit.
