The National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has suspended primary elections for the LC V and Woman Member of Parliament candidate in the newly created Butebo district over the boundary conflict with Palisa district.

In November 2016, Parliament approved the creation of Butebo district comprising of Kibaale, Butebo, Opwateta, Kinginima, Setete, Kakoro and Kabwangasi Sub counties. The district is home to the Iteso and Bagwere. The mother district remained with Pallisa and Kameke town councils and Pallisa, Kasodo, Kolot, Gogonyo, Apopong, Telekura, Agule, Akisim, Kamuge and Putiput Sub counties.

However, the people in Kibale want to remain under Pallisa, which they say is near compared to Butebo district headquarters that is about 26 kilometers away. Now, Dr. Tanga Odoi, the NRM party Electoral Commission Chairperson, says they will not conduct primary elections in Butebo district until the boundary dispute is resolved blaming the Local Government for the delays.

Robert Kadaban, the Opwateta Sub county LC 3 Chairperson, says he is happy that the NRM elections in Butebo district have been postponed.
