At least one person has died and eight others admitted to various hospitals in Kisumu and Migori counties following clashes between the Police and rioters who wanted to disrupt the elections.

Four out of seven victims admitted to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital had gunshot wounds. The victims claim they were dragged out of their houses and clobbered by the anti-riot police.

The deceased identified as George Odhiambo was allegedly shot at Mamboleo and is said to have succumbed to his injuries.

Elsewhere in the country the biometric voting system has become a big problem in most voting areas delaying the electorate to cast their vote by almost two hours.

Some parts of Nyandarua County Ol Joro Orok and at Gitwe polling station in Kipipiri Constituencies the election started late after the electronic identification kits (KIEMS) developed problems on top of the heavy rain pour that covered almost the entire country which forced the electoral materials to arrive late in the far located areas.

There has been generally a low voter turnout which many attributed to the boycott announced by the Nasa leader Raila Odinga who told his supporters to stay away from the polling centers.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC in the August 8th nullified election announced a total of 19.6 million registered voters and at least close to 15 million voters participated in electing their favourite candidates.

Nasa leader Raila Odinga, who boycotted the poll, last evening urged his supporters to remain at home and not to vote. His pronouncement is said to have caused fear among residents hence the poor voter turnout in the county.

It’s reported that at least 40 Jubilee Party agents in Mombasa failed to show up at various polling stations.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala said the agents, who had already been paid their allowances had let down the party and were mainly from Mvita and Kisauni constituencies.

Chief Justice David Maraga travelled to his rural home in Nyamira County where he cast his vote together with his wife in the repeat presidential election.

President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto cast their ballots at Mutomo Primary School in Gatundu South Constituency and Kosachei Primary School polling station in Turbo constituency respectively.

President Kenyatta, who is celebrating his birthday today, said, as a responsible leader, he may reach out to National Super Alliance (Nasa) Raila Odinga after the election as a way of unifying the country.

The United States, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert yesterday expressed deep concern about the political crisis in Kenya and urged parties to resolve their differences over a disputed August 8 presidential election without resorting to violence.
