Barely two days to this year’s Uganda Martyrs day celebrations at Namugongo, the number of pilgrims at the Catholic shrine is continuing to flock at the Catholic shrine each minute with the current figures indicating a total of 30,000 pilgrims from in and out of Uganda been registered.

Large numbers of pilgrims are from Kabala, Mbarara, Tororo and Democratic Republic of Congo with 539 pilgrims, 227 from Tanzania and three from United Kingdom among others.

Close to 2500 pilgrims from three vicariates of Hoima, the host diocese includes Masindi, Hoima and Kibaale have camped at Mulago in Kawempe division, Busega and Nansana waiting to reach Namugongo on the night of Wednesday June 1st .

They are expected to station at the Comboni missionaries’ center from where they will match to the Catholic shrine on Thursday June 1st in a procession with a band after the Julius Nyerere Mass that is expected to be attended by President Museveni and Maama Maria Nyerere.

The spokesperson of the Martyrs shrine Namugongo Fr. Joseph Mukasa told Radio Sapientia that so far all the registered pilgrims do not have any serious challenges adding that the security is tight for their security any pilgrim going to Namugongo must adhere to the set guidelines.

Some of the pilgrims we have talked to say, they are taking this pilgrimage to pray for peace in Uganda and for peaceful elections for those from Kenya.

Meanwhile, the Hoima diocese pilgrim choir Master Stanley Birungi has already assured a good and beautiful hymns come June 3rd 2017 Holy Mass,

Dr .Tonny Kabunga from Kira Health Center lll, a center that was gazette to provide first aid to support  Zia Angerina of the Catholic church near the shrine advises pilgrims to seek free treatment at their stole.
