Parliament is set to convene tomorrow July 11 to review the controversial taxes on mobile money and social media.

This follows a meeting where Makerere University student leadership and Mobile money dealers petitioned the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga challenging the taxes that they are bad and can destroy the economy.

The Mobile Money dealers told the Speaker that due to the new levy on the services, many people have abandoned the services and this has affected several businesses.

In response, the Speaker said the house will convene to deliberate on the taxes that have caused uproar in the country.

President Museveni has already directed for the lowering of taxes on mobile money transactions from 1 percent to 0.5 percent, although the OTT tax of 200/= for internet access has not been considered.
