Police have clarified that Members of Parliament (MPs) are free to invite their colleagues to their consultation meetings on the topical age limit constitutional amendment as long as they inform the area DPC earlier.

Addressing a weekly media briefing, the Police spokesperson Asan Kasingye says that the force has no problem with such joint rallies, for as long as they are held within the law.

This however, is contrary to the earlier order by the police force banning MPs from going in groups to consult with constituents on the age limit.

Kasingye says the police needs enough time to prepare such large meetings and ensure the safety of MPs plus their supporters, which is why it demands to be informed in advance.

Meanwhile, Police admits of having Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) senior leaders include Dr. Kizza Besigye, Ingrid Turinawe and Patrick Amuriat Oboi at Naggalala police station in Mukono after their arrests from Rukungiri last week.

Kasingye says that Besigye and his collogues are facing charges of murder, destruction  of property and inciting violence that lead to the death of a 22year old Edison Ninsiima.
