Namutumba town area turned chaotic this morning when Police and angry residents intercepted a suspected child kidnapper and tried to lynch him.

It took police time to calm the situation after running battles with locals and firing live bullets to disperse the crowds.

This was after police intercepted a Toyota Primio registration number UBB 627C which was travelling from Bugiri District to Ivukula in Namutumba District before arresting the driver, only identified as Abasa, 43years.

Police say the arrest followed a tip off from concerned people who told authorities that three children had been kidnapped from Bugiri District by unknown man travelling in that primio.

Namutumba DPC, SP John Rutagira, confirmed they had intercepted the car and found three children.

He said the suspect is being detained at Namutumba police station as police trace for the children’s parents. Police however is grateful that locals are now vigilant about the kidnappings happening in the country.

Rutagira says within this week, they have arrested two kidnap suspects but are also searching for a 12-year-old Tayona Lovisa, a primary four pupil at Bubutia primary school who went missing three weeks ago.”
