The death of veteran politician John Ssebaana Kizito has been described as a great loss to Uganda’s politics and economy.

Ssebaana Kizito, the former Kampala Mayor, entrepreneur and Democratic Party (DP) President died at Nakasero hospital on Monday morning where he was rushed two weeks ago when he suffered a stroke which resulted into a blockage of blood vessels in the brain According to the Doctor Joseph Okia a specialist in critical care

The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga described the late Ssebaana 83, as one who could associate with everybody but remained committed to the Democratic Party (DP) and has been a giant to Uganda’s economy.

Katikamu North MP Abraham Byandala who served as City Engineer under Ssebaana’s administration at the then Kampala City Council (KCC) lauded Ssebaana for exhibiting competence as a mayor amidst challenges and a who practiced mature politics and always encouraged engagement.

Meanwhile Members of the opposition Democratic Party (DP) have started mourning the departed former party president John Ssebaana Kizito with a tweeter post saying the late emphatically loved Brain Power at play in the game of politics.

The Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and Busiilo East MP Medadi Ssegona were the first to register their condolences to the DP Members, Family and Friends describing Ssebaana as a man who exhibited a sense of good leadership which should be emulated by the current generation.

Meanwhile the state minister of education Rosemary Sseninde said Ssebaana kizitio is a man who has left a legacy in the politics of Uganda regardless of the political affiliation and a person who has worked hard for the development of Kampala and the country at large.

Born in 1934, Ssebaana is one of the DP members said to have served in the different party leadership positions from village to the national level as a party president.

He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kampala South Constituency in 1980, Mayor of Kampala from 1999 to 2006 and as an economics graduate from Makerere university 1955 he started a number of businesses but majored in Insurance services and started his own  Statewide Insurance Company (SWICO), Uganda’s first private insurance company.
