The Secretary General Uganda Episcopal Conference Msgr. John Baptist Kauta has clarified that Pope Francis has NOT yet confirmed his second visit to Uganda as its being hyped by sections of the public and some media houses.

Msgr. Kauta however said its true that the Bishops of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (S.E.C.A.M.) who are celebrating the Golden Jubilee in July 2019 invited him for their Golden Jubilee celebrations next year since their association was founded and Launched by Saint Pope Paul VI in 1969 during his first visit to Africa and Uganda.

SECAM was established with the will of young African Bishops during the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) following a resolution to build a continental structure in order to bring forth the African vision to the whole Church.

Msgr. Kauta says the available information indicates that Rome has received two letters from SECAM and the Government of Uganda but his Holiness said “Let us see” literally meaning his second visit to Uganda may or may not be honoured and left the letters with his secretary.

But in any case; his visit must be communicated through the Nuncio and currently Uganda has not yet received a new one following the transfer of His Excellence Archbishop Michael August Blume to Hungary in August 2018.

SECAM lunched a whole year Golden Jubilee celebrations at Rubaga Cathedral July 19th 2018 with themes for each month until July 2019 that include among others; prayer and support for the family, faith and religion, poor and afflicted, good governance and provision of social services in preparation for the grand celebration they wish to be graced by the Pope.

Pope Francis visited Uganda on November 27th to 29th 2015 and two other African Countries Kenya and Central African Republic.
