The Private Sector has launched a charity walk and run under the One Dollar HIV and AIDs Initiative Uganda (ODI) to quick start a grand plan of raising funds to support the HIV and AIDs response.

ODI is being set up as an endowment fund to contribute to the HIV/AIDs cause in Uganda for the country to be able to provide quality drugs and interventions to all those that need them, making its target of ending HIV/Aids by 2030 achievable.

Addressing the media at the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) exhibition center Lugogo, the ODI Chairman Prof. Vinand Nantulya explains that they are targeting to raise 10bn USD in both the HIV and AIDs walk and Run as well as the annual contributions from the individuals, corporate companies, business entities, NGOs/CSOs among others.

The ODI Walk and Run is scheduled for December 9th his year under the slogan “Until it’s Over” targeting 10,000 participants at only 20,000shs each with the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) Chairperson Patrick Bitature alongside Prof. Maggie Kigozi as the chief walker or runner.

However, the ODI Executive Director George Tamale emphasizes that each Ugandan is required to contribute one dollar which is equivalent to 4,000shs annually to the Initiative towards the cause and currently having 10mshs.

According to the National Expenditure Assessment, Uganda’s expenditure budget for maintaining the 1.1million patients on AIDs related care and treatment currently stands at over 276 million dollars per year.
