Makerere University Council has forwarded 12 names of college principals for consideration where Prof. Edward Kirumira who failed to succeed to the post of the Vice Chancellors, looks to retain his position as the head of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) for the last five years.

According to the university public relations office Ritah Namisango, Prof. Kirumira is among six principals together with their deputies that the University council recommended for appointment and now await the Chancellor  Dr. Ezra Suruma’s , pronouncement.

Prof. Kirumira will be deputized by Associate Professor Josephine Ahikire, the dean for school of School of Women and Gender Studies who has been acting deputy principal for several months after Prof. Abasi Kiyimba went for treatment in South Africa.

Prof. John David Kabasa was recommended for the College of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Resources and Bio-Security deputized by, Dr. Samuel Majalija, Prof. J.Y.T Mugisha as Principal the College of Natural Sciences and Dr. Fredrick Jones Muyodi as his deputy whereas Prof. Fred Masagazi Masaazi maintained his seat as principal of the College of Education and External Studies He will be deputised by Dr. Paul Muyinda Birevu.

Prof. Tonny Oyana is a new entrant for the College of Computing and Information Sciences, taking over from Dr. Constant Okello-Obura who did not apply for another term. Prof. Oyana will be deputised by Dr. Agnes Rwashana Semwanga.

The University only advertised the position of Principal and Deputy Principal in the Colleges where current contracts for the respective positions had come to an end like Prof. Bernard Bashaasha, the current principal of the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences- and his deputy, Dr. Gorettie Nsubuga Nabanoga.
