The Uganda Association of Prosecutors (UAP) says it is negotiating with Government on salary enhancement and better working conditions even as the strike continues.

The Prosecutors who are on an indefinite strike are demanding for the minimum pay of the lowest officer to be Shillings nine million and Shillings 40 million for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Currently, the lowest ranking State Prosecutor earns a gross pay of Shillings 645,000, a Senior Principal State Attorney gets Shillings 2.1 million, the Deputy DPP Shillings 2.9 million, Assistant DPP Shillings 2.4 million Shillings while the DPP gets Shillings 11 million.

The President of the prosecutors’ Association David Baxter Bakibinga, says that although it appears like they are silent, they are in negotiations to ensure that government meets their demands.

The Deputy Attorney General Mwesigwa Rukutana says government is indeed in talks with the prosecutors who have agreed to go back to work although he was not clear on when they are to resume work.

Doctors, Nurses and Midwives are in the same queue over the same demands.
