The Public prosecutors under their umbrella body “the Uganda Association of Public Prosecutors” (UPPA) have given government an ultimatum of 14 days to either increase or positively respond to their demand of salary increment or else they go for industrial action.

In their general meeting held at imperial Royale hotel in Kampala today, the President of the association David Baxter Bakibinga listed a number of reasons forcing them to lay down tools which include; low salaries, long serving persons in the office without promotion among others.

The decided to unanimously hold a referendum on whether they should strike once government doesn’t respond to their demands and resolved to begin their industrial action on Monday next week with a 14 day ultimatum.

Speaking before Journalists after the referendum, Bakibinga says that Parliament has delayed to pass the bill they tabled in which they are asking for an independent body to handle their issues.

However, the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs Gen. Kahinda Otafire who attended the meeting as the guest of honor conquered with the issues presented by the prosecutors promising to stand by them in cabinet but his ministry has no capacity to influence the treasury.
