Rotary Uganda has partnered with six business companies in a campaign to save life dubbed “One Drop of Blood”, that will raise USD 500,000 approx UGX 2.4bn to purchase Rotary Blood Bank equipments for the Mengo Hospital.

Speaking to the press at the launch of the campaign, the Quality Chemicals Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Katongole said they want to enable the facility to test, process and pack safe blood, buy consumables and purchase a fully equipped safe mobile blood bank.

Uganda is estimated to be lacking over 100,000 units of blood since Uganda Blood Bank can only manage to collect and save 250,000 units of blood which doesn’t meet the World Health Organization (WHO) requirement of 350,000 blood units.

Katongole says that the initiative requires each Ugandan to contribute 1000shs and a drop of blood to save 20 percent of Ugandans especially mothers and children who die because of no blood.

However, they have organized a mega fundraising concert on March 7th 2019 in Kampala that will be entertained by an American Saxophonist Kirk Whalum where they expect each partner company to contribute 75mshs.
