The Ruhinda County Member of Parliament Donozio Kahonda Mugabe has been granted bail by the Luweero Chief Magistrate, Charles Sserubuga, on a non-cash bond of Shillings 500,000 and his three sureties including Abdul Kasule, a farmer of Bombo town council, Captain Amon Ssenyonyi, attached to Operation Wealth Creation and Justus Twesigye, a teacher at Makerere High School, also executed a non-cash bond of Shillings 5 million each.

Kahonda who is battling fresh charges of forgery and uttering false documents false, the  Ordinary level (O-level) and Advanced Level (A-level) Certificates of Education to gain admission to Ndejje University in 2006 before the Luweero Chief Magistrate denied the charges through his lawyer Caleb Mwesigwa of Mwesigwa Associated Advocates asked.

Mwesigwa reiterated the earlier grounds contained in the MP’s bail application that his client was a member of parliament and the soul bread winner of his family including his brother who is battling cancer; which were based on to be granted the non cash bail since he had deposited another Shillings 500,000 in Jinja High court for bail.

The Luweero Resident State Attorney Beatrice Alok, objected to the bail for fear of interfering with the investigations

Shortly after his release, Kahonda jumped into a waiting car and drove off with his supporters on police directives for fear of interrupting court business but later addressed the press at his home in Matugga where he attributed his suffering to the Minister for Constitutional affairs General Kahinda Otafiire whose admission papers to Makerere University said must be investigated

Kahonda, a retired Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) captain, was in June found guilty of 11 counts of impersonation, forgery and uttering false documents by the Jinja Chief Magistrates Court.
