The Bishop of Moroto diocese Rt. Rev. Damiano Giulio Guzzetti is concerned with the booming sachet alcohol business in Karamoja sub region which he says is killing the soul and mind of the citizens.

This was in his presentation at the ongoing Missionary Congress of 100 years of Pontifical Missionary Union (PMU) and the 50 years of Vatican II Decree, “AD GENTES DIVINITUS-(Church’s missionary activity) at Pope Paul Memorial Hotel Ndeeba,

Bishop Guzzetti says Karamajong community is now spoilt by the booming sale and consumption of crude waragi yet people had become free from the most dangerous illegal possession of fire arms.

He further says that the escalating false prophets in the region has also contributed to spiritual poverty among Karamajongs hence calling for dedication among missionary priests and other religious leaders to go and evangelize, counsel and guide communities in Karamoja.

In July this year, Arua district council passed the alcohol control ordinance with key components of regulations on the sale and consumption of alcohol before 5pm and totally banned sachet waragi.
