State prosecutors have suspended their sit down strike for the next 90 days to allow the government fulfills its promise of catering for their welfare and salaries within the same period.

Those who work from within the Kampala city managed to resume work on Monday July 17th afternoon while those from upcountry stations will start work Tuesday morning.

The decision to suspend the strike was reached in a meeting between the Minister for Justice and constitutional affairs Kahinda Otafiire and the prosecutors at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

Last week, criminal sessions in all courts across the country were paralysed following the prosecutors’ sit down strike over low emolument.

According to the current salary structure of prosecutors under DPP, the lowest ranking prosecutor (State prosecutor) earns a monthly gross pay of Shs 644,963 which is said to be raised to 3 million shillings and their head the DPP who currents earns 11 million shillings will earn above 22 million shillings if the promise is fulfilled. David Bakibinga the president Uganda Association of prosecutors (UAP) confirmed the resolution.

Meanwhile Bakibinga has urged the government to desist from acts of waiting people to demonstrate and then solve the problem on the table because can cause problems to the country.
