High court of criminal division in Kampala under Justice Willison Masalu Musene has today failed to proceed with the treason case against the 19 suspects after the state witness who had to testify developed acute diarrhea.

 

The court could not proceed and adjourned the hearing to 28 of this month with orders to the state to work on the witness’s problem for him to produce effective evidence.

Court has also ordered state to at least produce 3 witnesses in each sitting to avoid such incidents.

The defence counsel Twhaya Mayanja said the incident as not been done in good faith but instead to keep their clients in bars.

The suspects who include the leader of the Tabliq sect Sheikh Yunus Kamoga and a woman Aisha Nakasibante who is also an in-law to Austrian based cardiologist Dr Aggrey Kiyingi are facing two counts of treason and concealment of treason.

They are said to have plotted to overthrow the government of Uganda by use of firearms between the years; 2013 and 2015 at various places in Uganda, Dubai, Kenya and Tanzania.
