Tooro Prime Minister Bernard Tungakwo has called for immediate return of the kingdom land and other properties occupied by government institutions.

Tungakwo<RIGHT> says when President Museveni visited Tooro in January 2016, he promised to return kingdom properties which haven’t been effected by now.

This prompted institution of a special committee to handle the matter but it has never made any headway despite of a number of engagements with the state house contact person Flora Kiconco as directed by President Museveni to the extent of drafting a Memorandum of Understanding which has never been honored.

Toro Kingdom land and properties are situated at Kabarole, Kamwenge, Kyenjojo and Kyegegwa districts.

The Kingdom also has assets in Kasese and Bundibugyo, which were formerly under Tooro Kingdom.

Tungakwo says Prisons service occupies large chunks of kingdom land including one of the King’s Palaces in Kamwenge district but Commissioner General of Prisons; Dr Johnson Byabashaija refused to meet them.

The kingdom land and properties were confiscated by Obote I government in 1967 after the abolition of cultural of institutions and since the restoration of kingdoms in 1993, Tooro has only received 17 land titles equivalent to 13 square miles of land.
