The US president Donald Trump has fulfilled his visit to Pope Francis in Vatican Wednesday morning May 24th describing their meeting as a great honour for him and his country.

The president, accompanied by his wife Melania, his daughter, Ivanka and several aides, arrived at the Vatican just after 8 a.m. local time.

According to Catholic Herald, the leaders shook hands and Trump could be heard thanking the pope and saying it was “a great honour” to be there. They then posed for photographs before a private meeting.

Trump, the 13th US presented to visit the Vatican is expected to be given a tour of the Vatican, visit the Sistine Chapel and hold a private meeting with the pontiff in his library.

Later the Pope handed out rosaries to members of the delegation before the group posed for pictures, and then he bade the president and his wife farewell.

Trump and the pontiff have disagreed in the past on issues including environmental protection and Pope Francis criticized Trumps election point where he promised to build a wall on the Mexican border which declaration the Pope challenged saying building bridges, is not Christian.
