The Uganda Association of External Recruitment Agencies (UAERA) has challenged the report on the 48 Ugandans said to have died in the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait in the last 9 months.

Addressing the media in Kampala, the UAERA Chairman Andrew Tumwine Kameraho says that most of the names indicated in the report, those personalities were confirmed to have succumbed to natural death 4 to 5 years back, their bodies were repatriated and their families compensated.

The members of the Parliamentary Committee on Gender led by the Ngora County MP David Abala released a shocking report from their field visit to Dubai last week, on the recruited Ugandan domestic workers in Middle East showing most of the registered deaths were due to suicide, murder, heart attack, traumatic and accidents among others.

Kameraho and Noah Mayambala, the Secretary General of UAERA says that the report also contains false information with names attached to certain recruitment companies yet many of the suspected victims and the deceased were illegally sneaked out of the country through unregistered recruitment companies.

However, the UAERA Board Member Ashe Kitandwe emphasizes that the challenges currently reported on Ugandans from Middle East are from legally approved companies, that provided all the necessary requirements for those who sought employment from Middle East  and they have; medical assurance and compensation on death among other incentives.

The UAERA Secretary General Noah Mayambala demands the Ugandan Mission in Saudi Arabia to issue the collect information that would clear the image of this country warning that such a report might affect jobs and remittances received from labour externalization.
