The Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) has instructed telecom companies to switch on all deactivated sim cards before Wednesday May 24th at 7pm.

Addressing the media at UCC headquarters in Bugoloobi, the commission Executive Director Godfrey Mutabaazi says they discovered that National Identification Registration Authority (NIRA) did some delays in releasing national identity cards yet it was the major requirement for verification exercise.

This comes after closed meeting between Mutabaazi and heads of Telecom Companies at UCC headquarters this morning.

Mutabaazi further confirms that the extension will indeed last for three months but expected all Ugandans to have their sim cards registered without fail.

Previously, due to people outcry, President Yoweri Museveni directed UCC to extend SIM Card registration exercise up to August 30th this year.
