About 326,149 number of candidates are said to have sat for Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations at 3,568 centres across the country. At least 151,894 (46.6 per cent) candidates are from government schools while 174,255 (53.4 per cent) are private.

Uneb statistics indicate that candidate numbers at O-level increased by 3,020 (about 0.9 percent) from 323,129 in 2016.

The examination exercise received hitches following exam malpractice especially in the papers of Agriculture and Biology that left some scouts arrested but the Executive Secretary UNEB Daniel Odongo promised the shortfall did not affect the exams as planned.
