Parliamentary Natural Resources committee has advised Government to stock enough quantities of fuel ahead of the Kenyan elections slated for August this year.

The committee observes that previous elections in Kenya have significantly affected fuel supply into Uganda with the worst case scenario was the 2007 post-election violence that caused a severe fuel crisis not only in Uganda but also in the neighbouring countries like Burundi.

Kenya goes to the polls on August 8th, to elect the President, his deputy, Members of the Senate and National Assembly as well as County Governors and Ward Representatives).

Committee members observed, in a report to Parliament, that Uganda needs to improve its petroleum storage capacity by adequately stocking the storage facilities in Jinja, reserves with a capacity to store up to 30 million litres of fuel, 20 litres of Petrol and 10 litres of diesel.

The chairperson of the Natural Resources Committee Alex Byarugaba, advises government to provide sufficient funding for restocking the reserves as the country devises means of increasing Petroleum strategic reserves and make use of the ones in Nakasongola and Buloba.
