Delivering his speech as the Guest Honor at the ceremony in Kampala, the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda said the fund will cater for the procurement of medicines and medical equipments for combating the three diseases.

Since 2002, Global Fund has extended grants worth 1bnUSD to Uganda of which 90 percent of the money goes on buying drugs and other health commodities.

According to Rugunda, the launched grant has increased by 57mUSD from the previous funding of 421mUSD and has made Uganda the most African country largely funded by Global Fund against combating HIV and TB epidemics.

However, he appeals to the Ministry of Health and The Aids Support Organization (TASO) to monitor and make sure that the funds are fully and appropriately utilized.

Meanwhile, the Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng declared that Uganda has no debts pending from the previous Global Fund with all being cleared hence calling for development partners to continue extending support to this country.
