Government has vowed to continuously provide good reception and services to refugees that seek safety in the country amidst of limited funds.

Delivering his speech at the national commemoration of the World Refugee Day held at Nsambya playground in Kampala, the Minister for Relief and Disaster Preparedness, Hilary Onek says refugees are entitled for good reception as plight of millions of people worldwide are forced to leave their homes as a result of conflicts and persecution.

According to the data published by United Nations (UN) Refugee Agency, by the end of 2016, more than 65 million people worldwide were forced to leave their homes due to conflict and persecution, that’s an average of 28,300 people per day, almost 20 people every minute.

However, Onek calls upon Ugandans to recall their common humanity, celebrate tolerance and diversity with open hearts to refugees living in our communities.

Meanwhile, the Minister has advised refugees to avoid getting involved in misunderstandings with the host communities and always strive to keep peace and harmony.
