Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has impounded a total of 30 containers of commodities worthy billion of shillings that had been smuggled into the country.

The items include; metric tons of Rice, batteries and Battery Acid, 12 containers of Paraffin wax used to make cosmetics, 1,500 car Tyres and fertilizers among others.

The commodities were displayed before the press at the URA head offices in Nakawa by the Assistant Director Corporate and Public Affairs Vincent Seruuma.

He says that fraudsters engage suppliers through addresses of genuine companies’ online, order for supplies but when goods are delivered they block communication and all documents and claim or smuggle the goods.

Seruuma says suppliers from Netherlands, China and India are the main victims of such illegalities warning Ugandans to stop it.
