Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) has described the land amendment bill before Parliament seeking to compulsorily acquire land for government projects as unnecessary and unconstitutional.

UWONET Executive Director Ritah Achilo<RIGHT> during the national level policy dialogue, discussing and drawing recommendations to shape the agenda for advocacy on women’s land rights said the amendment will mainly affect women who use the land for agriculture.

Achilo adds that the purpose of the Bill is itself not clear since the current laws provides for what government is trying to forward for amendments.

A number of, MPs have warned that the bill could be a ploy to grab private land. Achilo challenged ladies in this country to rally against the amendments.

While appearing on Mega FM radio in Gulu last evening President Museveni said he decided to speak for the amendment after the opposition enjoyed airtime almost on all media giving false information on the proposed land amendments but warned army officers against involving in land grabbing.
