The youth wing of the opposition Democratic Party UYD has called for signatures that will be used to compel the election commission to organize for a referendum on the presidential age limit debate.

UYD chairman Charles Waswa says, they are ready to collect 2 million signatures before the  28th of this month although the exercise has been interrupted by police yet they got clearance from the EC and Inspector General  of police(IGP).

Wasswa says they no longer trust parliament on the matter giving the information reaching them that a plan has been hatched to bribe them off.

They contend that lifting the presidential age limit is treasonous to the country Uganda.

Meanwhile The Chairperson of the parliamentary Legal committee Jacob Oboth Oboth has refused to grant another opportunity to former presidential candidates and Law dons who were invited to present their views on the constitutional amendments of article 102b to lift the presidential age limit.

Among those who turned down the invite are; John Patrick Amama Mbabazi, Rt. Col.  Dr. Kizza Besigye of the FDC and Makerere university Law scholars among others.

Oboth Oboth says their failure to attend without any communication means they were not interested in the subject matter.

The committee was today locked up in a closed meeting to agree on the draft report they are to present to the parliament.
