The Uganda Young Democrats [UYD] are to petition the shadow Attorney General Wilfred Niwagaba next week to help them table a motion before parliament to investigate the way police officers treat suspects in their custody.

Addressing the press at the UYD offices in Kampala, the group’s Vice chairperson for Eastern Region Moses Bigirwa says that the manner in which the security operatives treated him while in Kawempe and Wandegeya police stations was inhuman and unconstitutional.

He adds that police officers are in the force for selfish desires and most of them are partisan and indiscriminately arresting young between 18 and 30 years of age over unclear reasons.

Moses Bigirwa was released yesterday unconditionally after Law Development court Grade One Magistrate Roselyn Nsenge discovered that he had been charged under a law that was repealed by the Supreme Court in 2002.
