Hundreds of Christians have converged at Lubaga Cathedral to celebrate the Archdiocesan day that has clocked 53 years since it became an Archdiocese.

The Archbishop Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga the ordinary was happy for the achievements in the year ended that included hosting of SECAM, getting the second minor basilica, two new parishes, St. Denis Konge Lukuli and all saints catholic parish Butambala making them 67 parishes in the archdiocese.

He also said the second archbishop of Kampala Cardinal Emanuel Wamala is marking 25 years as a cardinal and 93 years of age this year among other achieves that they have to thank God for.

He however mentioned a number of challenges like witchcraft, theft, indecency and murders are major challenges affecting the diocese and its residents.

Dr. Lwanga said murders and strikes especially in the public universities like Makerere are threatening parents and every Ugandan a problem that must be solved through dialogue; urging the vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi who was present on behalf of the government to take the message to the government.

Poverty has been mentioned as another big problem challenging many, the haves have got a lot and the poor are getting poorer, where Dr. Lwanga urged government to look into the problem but also for people to avoid wasteful expenditure.

He called for repentance and self examination to live true Christian life and those who are not married to utilize the last Sunday of December at Namugongo to get married than refusing to get married because of fear of the fancy weddings.

The day involves giving accountability on the church activities from all parishes and this year the report revealed increase among those who received sacraments right from baptism to Holy matrimony, protection of church property like land, developing of talents music, dance and drama, sports among others.
