The Uganda Catholic Secretariat, family, friends and well-wishers have eulogized the former National Director of Caritas Uganda, the late Msgr. Francis Ndamira.

This was in a requiem mass at St Peter’s Catholic Church Nsambya on Monday morning led by the Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese Msgr. Charles Kasibante while the homily was given by the Secretary General of the Uganda Episcopal Conference Msgr. John Baptist Kauta.

Msgr. Ndamira, 83, passed on at St Francis Nsambya Hospital Sunday, August 27th, 2023 due to advanced Cancer.

In his homily, Msgr. Kauta presented the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) Chairman, Rt Rev Joseph Antony Zziwa’s message saying Msgr Ndamira’s death shocked the Catholic Bishops after having gone into retirement from office two months ago.

Msgr. Kauta further acknowledged the contribution of the late Msgr. Ndamira to the church saying his life of service was full of simplicity, hard work, God fearing, loving and dedicated for the betterment of others especially the refugees.

He said Msgr. Ndamira has been Pope Francis’s admirer over the pontiff’s pastoral visits that are educative, open minded, accommodative and motivate people because he has taught many through his pastoral visits that one needs to be open minded, accommodative and motivate others for the mission of God which is Love to be lived amongst the people.

Among other high dignitaries attending the requiem mass were the Minister for ICT and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi who described Msgr. Ndamira is a man who has successfully helped the people of Kigezi as their Chaplin in Kampala and back home but also was a special Presidential advisor on the committee of prerogative of mercy, a role he has served without the knowledge of many.

Msgr. Ndamira was born in 1940 in Bukinga Kabale they later migrated to Kinkizi around 1947 from where he joined studies. He was ordained a priest in 1970, served as a priest, pastoral coordinator and later as Vicar General.

It was at this time that he worked hard under the stewardship of the late Bishop Barnabas Rugwizangonga Halem ‘Imana who was the ordinary of Kabale Diocese, to start Centenary Bank in Kabale before he was transferred to the Uganda Catholic Secretariat as the National director for Caritas 25 years ago.

He will be laid to rest on Tuesday 29th August 2023 at Kanungu.
