Education Ministry clarifies on digital devices’ use in school

First Lady was celebrating achievements set by education ministry and set goals for 2024 Story by Olivia Nabaggala

Government has defended the use of mobile digital devices recently introduced in schools under the Digital Agenda Strategy.

This comes after the First Lady who doubles as the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Kataaha Museveni launched the Digital Agenda Strategy that was designed to increase the use of electronic tools and technologies to enhance both learning and the management of quality education and sports.

Dr. Dennis K. Mugimba, the Education Ministry’s Spokesperson today at the Uganda Media Center outlined the Government’s phased approach to integrating mobile devices into the education system while ensuring the safety of learners.

The Ministry clarified that policies regulating the use of digital devices in schools are still under development and that mobile devices, such as phones and tablets, are currently not permitted for learners on school premises.

Dr Mugimba noted that the ministry is yet to finalize development of policy standards and guidelines to regulate the use of digital tools and technologies in schools.

This statement comes after many parents expressed concerns on social media regarding the safety of young children using digital devices in schools, particularly with regard to online security risks.
