FDC supporters arrested in Kenya reappear in Court

Fdc supporters arrested in kenya over terror crimes in court- story by Elizabeth Ankunda

The 36 Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party supporters who were arrested at a hotel in Kisumu, Kenya have re-appeared before the Nakawa Magistrate’s Court for hearing of their case.

The group of the FDC Katonga faction, were arrested on terrorism charges, and remanded since last month.

On Wednesday, their case proceeded before Nakawa Grade One Magistrate Andrew Katurubuki.

During the court proceedings, the accused persons through their lawyers informed court that they were brutally handled by the security personnel during their arrest, and some of their documents like National IDs and ATM cards were taken away from them hence asking court to order the police to return them.

Presiding Magistrate Katurubuki accepted their plea and ordered the security to immediately release their documents which are not going to be used as exhibits and also directed the state prosecutor Richard Birivumbuka to produce the accused persons’ medical reports.

He finally adjourned the matter to September 25th 2024.

Prosecution contends that between July 22nd and 23rd, 2024, the group traveled from various parts of Uganda to Kisumu, Kenya, for the purpose of providing or receiving terrorism training.

They were subsequently arrested by Kenyan authorities, deported to Uganda, and charged with terrorism before Nakawa Chief Magistrate, Erias Kakooza.
