Shs6bn needed for completion of new All Saints Cathedral

All Saints Cathedral Nakasero construction project.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu has disclosed that they are still in need of up to Shs6bn to complete the outside works of the All Saints Cathedral Nakasero construction project.

The God’s temple if completed will have taken Shs25bn and since the start of the construction they have spent Shs18bn.

Archbishop Kaziimba said this to the press at the new All Saints Cathedral revealing that the 5,000 Seater Cathedral that is uniquely designed with two galleries without columns will officially be opened on 1st November 2024 since all the interior works have been completed.

Kaziimba also confirmed that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will officiate at the commissioning event of the Cathedral while the Bishop of Lango Diocese, Rt. Rev. Alfred Olwa will be the guest preacher on that day.

It should be noted that the idea of building the new sanctuary started in 2004 following the Needs Assessment Survey that called for an adequate place of worship space at the very site which led to the creation of a committee called All Saints Cathedral Building Committee under the advice of the late Archbishop Livingstone Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo.

Laying of the foundation stone was done in February 2011 by the former Archbishop Henry Luke Orombi.

Archbishop Kaziimba also revealed that they will use the same occasion to consecrate the Bishop elect of Kampala diocese Rev. Canon Fredrick Jackson Baalwa since the current Bishop Dr. Mannington Mutebi announced his intentions to retire by the end of this year 2024.

Archbishop Kaziimba was in company of Chairperson Building Committee Vivian Igundura and Chairman Organizing Committee Rt. Hon Amama Mbabazi who said the occasion expected to attract 3000 people and will cost the church close to 700 million shillings.

The former Prime Minister however appealed to Christians and well-wishers to contribute towards the success of this event.
